Renowned South African bowler Bobby Donnelly has been appointed as the new Chief Operating Officer at Bowls South Africa with effect from April 1, 2023.
Bobby, who has been well known on the international stage for many years, has an impressive Bowls CV. His record includes Commonwealth Games Singles (Gold) – Manchester 2002, Commonwealth Games Triples (Gold) – Glasgow 2014, World Championships Fours (Silver) – Johannesburg 2000, World Championships Fours (Silver) – Adelaide 2012, as well as 3 Atlantic Rim Gold Medals – Johannesburg 2009 – Triples and Fours and Cyprus 2011 – Pairs.
Bobby has also served on many administrative committees during the past 20 years, more recently being co – opted onto various Bowls South Africa ad hoc committees.
One of Bobby’s tasks will be to support, energise and provide platforms for youth and development programs in South Africa – to this Bobby adds a very significant quote not only directed to the newer bowlers but also to the more seasoned bowlers:
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts.” (Winston Churchhill)
We wish Bobby all the best in his new role and acknowledge retiring John Ravenscroft for his contribution to Bowls in South Africa.
